Fringe-eared Oryx
Fringe-eared Oryx are a rare and beautiful form of oryx. Oryx are antelope which are deer-like animals with hooves and horns. Horns are made out of keratin just like our fingernails. Horns grow on an antelope’s head during its lifetime. Antlers are different. They are made out of bone and grow on a deer’s head. Antlers fall off and grow back each year.

Physical Description
Fringe-eared Oryx are large tan colored antelope with white and black faces and black side stripes. They have light bellies, black ringed horns, dark manes and a long black tail. They are named for their long furry ears. They can grow more than 7 feet long and weigh more than 450 pounds.
Family Life
Mother Fringe-eared Oryx normally have 1 calf. The calf can stand and walk within 1 hour of being born. They leave their mother’s side but stay with the herd after 4 months. They are full grown when they are 2 years old.
