Grant's Zebra

Who can mistake a zebra?  They have a horse-like body and black and white striping.  These wild cousins of horses live throughout Africa’s grasslands.  Not only are there different types or species of zebras, every zebra has its own stripe pattern.

I like zebras because they know how to horse around.

Physical Description

Grant’s Zebras are large, they can be more than 8 feet long and weigh up to 850 pounds.  They are built like horses with a tail, long legs and hard toe nails called hooves.  They have black striping on a white body.  This striping even goes onto their tail and into their mane (the line of fur on the head and neck).

Family Life

Grant’s Zebras normally have 1 baby called a foal.  It grows up in a family group called a herd, with its mom, dad and other zebras.  Every member of the herd watches, listens and smells for any sign of danger so that they can run together and keep each other safe.
